Summer 2014

Eric Affeldt

Dear Members and Guests,

In the 1992 presidential campaign, the phrase “It’s the economy, stupid” became Bill Clinton’s mantra and ticket to the White House. Well, here at ClubCorp — and I’ll drop the pejorative — “It’s the family that matters.” During the last several years, we have spent millions of dollars to make our clubs even more family friendly. This focus helped us through the recession when consumers were dropping nonessentials but keeping their memberships because their clubs were their family retreats. I’m proud of this priority because, at their core, the clubs are an extension of your/our local family. All of us love to spend time with family and friends, whether it’s sharing a meal, playing golf or tennis, working out, or celebrating special events. That’s why we say ClubCorp is in the business of “building relationships and enriching lives.” That’s not only good business sense, it’s fun!

With that emphasis on family, we offer a very warm welcome to five new additions to the ClubCorp family of clubs. First, we have added The Clubs of Prestonwood to our Dallas-Fort Worth hub — with two unique locations, one in North Dallas and one in Plano. Second, we are thrilled to have purchased two of the prestigious TPC clubs — TPC Michigan in Dearborn and TPC Piper Glen in Charlotte, N.C. (Click here to read more.) We hope you’ll get out this summer and visit these new arrivals. Finally, we’re excited about the impending debut of ClubCorp’s newest college club — this one in Baylor University’s soon-to-open McLane Stadium.

Speaking of new arrivals, my daughter Ashley and son-in-law Jason have blessed me with a beautiful granddaughter, Clara. Clara recently made her first visit to one of our great California clubs, Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club. I’m sure she’ll make many new friends at the club as another generation grows up with ClubCorp.

With a fond farewell,
