The Acura ClubCorp Champions Classic makes its triumphant return to Pinehurst Resort this weekend! Since 1987, the challenging ClubCorp national tournaments have offered Members exciting opportunities to visit new places, playing with fellow Members from across the country. The Acura ClubCorp Champions Classic is a wonderful time for Members to come together and enjoy friendly competition and build relationships.

Beginning Monday, September 29 golfers from clubs across the country will walk in the footsteps of golf’s greatest players as they take on the challenging 54-hole tournament. The tournament consists of Pinehurst Resort’s illustrious Courses No. 2 (home to the 2014 U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open Championship), No. 4 and No. 8.

If you’re attending the tournament but not participating, or if you find yourself with some down time between tee times, the surrounding area offers plenty by way of day trips and exciting activities. Some favorite destinations in the Pinehurst area are within 30 or 45 minutes – others are about an hour away. Click here to see a few of our favorites.

Competitors have the opportunity to take home many prizes, including the coveted Putter Boy, which goes to the first place team. Second and third place teams win the tournament award, and Acura will award one lucky Member the use of an Acura for a year via blind draw during the Acura Awards Dinner. Players also have the chance to win daily closest-to-the-pin contests and exciting door prizes.

We hope Members have a wonderful time playing in the tournament during its 28th year!

Every fall 70 teams from ClubCorp country clubs, business clubs, and societies from across the country compete together in the Acura ClubCorp Champions Classic. This year's team event was held at Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas. The play-your-own ball format teams Country Club Members with their respective golf professional, while Business Club, and Society teams are paired with a ClubCorp golf professional. Competition at the event is always close, this this year being no exception as one stroke separated the top 3 teams.

The team of Andy Sheen, Stephen Grimes, Drew Litsch, Devin Davenport (pro), and Mike Scheitzach from Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond, Oklahoma came out on top this year, followed by teams from Shadowridge Golf Club, located in Vista, California, and Canyon Gate Country Club, located in Las Vegas.

Congratulations to all teams participating in this year's Acura ClubCorp Champions Classic. Watch for details on next year's event coming soon!

The Acura ClubCorp Champions Classic began this week at the Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas. With more than 80 teams competing through this weekend, the 54-hole tournament promises to be a fun and spirited competition.

At the welcome reception and dinner, Australian golfer Greg Norman made an appearance. He spoke about life lessons he learned on the golf course and then opened the floor to questions from the audience. The crowd learned that Norman practiced golf techniques for 10 hours a day, six days a week and did not play rounds of golf between tournaments. His favorite tournament is The Masters and his favorite competitor was Seve Ballesteros, who passed away in 2011. Norman said that both of their games improved when they played together; Ballesteros had a strong short game, while Norman was better at long drives.

When they're not on the course, players and their spouses can enjoy Acura test-drives through the beautiful Texas Hill Country, visit Austin’s local attractions, meet new friends over dinner or cocktails and even win door prizes.

Last week, Sept. 5-9, was the 2012 Acura ClubCorp Team Championship at Barton Creek Resort and Spa in Austin, Texas.

Most participants arrived Tuesday or Wednesday night for the practice round during the day and the welcome reception on Wednesday evening.

Members and Employee Partners loved the chance to stay in the same hotel, and the ability to conveniently walk down to all of the competitions and festivities. The days were hot, but the heat didn’t take away from the event and Saturday morning was much cooler, hitting the mid 80s at the end of the day and creating a comfortable end to the tournament. Barton Creek is surrounded by Texas' beautiful hill country and many attendees brought their spouses, who could relax and sightsee when they weren't cheering on their favorite teams.

Canyon Crest Country Club in Riverside, Calif. clinched the win in an exciting three-hole playoff between a team from Canyon Crest and a team from Canyon Creek Country Club in Richardson, Texas. Canyon Crest got an edge by recording a birdie on the third hole in the playoff, where Canyon Creek made par.

This year’s Championship had a few notable firsts. In the tournament’s 26-year run, this was the first time Canyon Crest had won the event. Additionally, it was also the first time a female pro has won the tournament along with her team. We want to extend a hearty congratulations to Jennifer Dolph and the rest of Team One from Canyon Crest on reaching these Championship milestones. Additionally, congratulations to Bob Blumberg, a Member at The Clubs of Kingwood, on his hole-in-one on Sept. 6.

The rest of the tournament was tight and close. The evenutal third through sixth place teams all tied for third place at the end of the third round with a score of 174. In a scorecard play-off, East Lake Woodlands Country Club from Tampa Bay, Fla. took third, Trophy Club Country Club from Trophy Club, Texas took fourth, Canyon Gate Country Club from Las Vegas took fifth and Treesdale Golf and Country Club from Gibsonia, Pa. finished in sixth.

Another lucky winner, Tom Reed, a Member from River Creek Club in Leesburg, Virginia won a three-day stay at the Lodge at Doonbeg with two rounds of golf on a Greg Norman course for shooting closest to the pin.

During the Saturday night awards dinner, Chuck Feddersen, Regional Vice President, Golf & Country Clubs Division, and Cathy Harbin, Vice President, Golf Revenue, presented all of the additional awards and prizes, including Bennelli shotguns, a four-day golf-and-fishing stay at Cheyenne Ridge Signature Lodge in Pierre, South Dakota, presented by the Wyoming Club; Maui Jim sunglasses, Foot Joys My Joys golf shoes; Greg Normans golf shirts; Crocs golf shoes; a Disney trip, and Golf Buddy Voice and Platinum GPS systems.
