July 24, 1998 – ClubCorp and Jack Nicklaus’ Golden Bear International Announce a Joint Venture to build three golf course products: The joint venture's first project is The Golden Bear Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park, Kansas, near Kansas City, with groundbreaking anticipated to take place the following fall. The club opens in 2001.
The two additional projects are "The Bear's Best" courses, which will consist of 18 holes selected by Nicklaus from among the 160 courses designed worldwide by Nicklaus Design. Each project features a different 18-hole selection, depending upon the location, climate and terrain.
"I personally will be involved in the selection of holes because nobody knows these courses like I do," Jack Nicklaus says at the time. "The venture with Robert Dedman and ClubCorp is a great fit between our two companies."
Several greater Atlanta-area clubs teamed together recently to play their First Tee Marathon at The Country Club of the South in Johns Creek, Georgia. Participating clubs included Country Club of Gwinnett, Bear's Best, Woodside Plantation Country Club and Country Club of the South.
The groups teed off at 7 a.m. and, 10 hours later, completed 100 holes of golf and raised almost $20,000 for The First Tee! What a great way for a team to come together for a good cause.
The bar for next year has now been set and, with more than 30 clubs now in the Atlanta market, the results should go far beyond and serve as an event that unites even more of the area Golf Professionals.
Good job to all involved!
Just minutes from the immortal Las Vegas strip, Bear’s Best is an upscale, daily fee public course offering a world-class experience in a public facility focused on corporate entertaining, golf outings and other private events.
The illustrious 18-hole golf course offers manicured bent
grass greens, challenging and varied hole designs and
immaculate fairway/tee complexes (overseeded in winter
to ensure optimal conditions year-round).
The article particularly praises the Club’s No. 1 and No. 18 holes. “Bear's Best Las Vegas' opening and closing holes are two of the best around -- one from the Nicklaus Private Course at PGA West (the first) and one from PGA West's Nicklaus Tournament Course (the 18th). The opening hole plays 413 yards from the tips…The finale is one of the toughest players will face anywhere. At 463 yards, it's a monster.”
“’It's not a course players can -- or need -- to overpower. "You really have to think your way around the course,’" said golfer Brad Davies. "’But it's beautiful, and it's a challenge, and that's just what you want in a course.’"

On December 4, 2012, Las Vegas Bride and Beautiful Bride magazines, two of the largest bridal magazines in Las Vegas, hosted the 2012 Las Vegas Wedding Awards.
The awards are very prestigious and taken very seriously by brides-to-be. You can either be nominated by a vendor or a wedding party, and thousands of votes are cast before the final three are sent to a panel of experts.
Out of the sea of possible wedding reception sites in the city, the panel chose Bear's Best as the Best Reception Site for 2012.
"Obviously, there is a ton of competition for the awards and we are very excited because it is the first one we've received," said Club Private Events Director Gordon Parker, pictured here at the awards ceremony
According to Parker, reception bookings have increased dramatically since the Club recently remodeled their banquet room into the breath-taking, and now award-winning, venue it is today.
Additionally, as if winning Best Reception Site wasn't enough, three out of the four vendors the Club offers in their wedding package (the Club's disc jockey, photographer and baker) all won awards in their respective fields at the Las Vegas Wedding Awards.
You would have a hard time finding a more award-winning group of players for your big day!
Congratulations to the wonderful private events team at Bear's Best Las Vegas!
The Gwinnett Daily Post this week published a nice story on the upcoming 10th Anniversary of Bear's Best Atlanta, a highly rated and unique course with replicas of some of the best holes from Nicklaus courses around the world.
"I'm proud of where we are, because not just golf, it's tough out there, and I think we've weathered the storm. We're in great shape," Bear's Best General Manager Craig Riddle said in the article. "I feel fortunate we've not had to cut back on the experience, the overall experience, course conditions, overall quality of our product has not suffered."
ClubCorp also operates a highly rated Bear's Best course in Las Vegas, Nevada.
