The first-ever LA Club Classic was held recently with Members from Porter Valley Country Club (Northridge, California); Braemar Country Club (Tarzana, California) and City Club LA enjoying a fun-filled weekend that included a Saturday night cocktail reception at the City Club LA and Sunday golf tournament at Braemar followed by an award ceremony.
Mingling among Members during the cocktail hour spurred a friendly competition that fired up the players for the next day’s tournament. The day of the tournament, participants and their family members attended a brunch hosted at Braemar, where Executive Chef James Morris showcased a variety of dishes and got rave reviews afterward.
During the tournament, two players from each club were teamed with two players from another club, leading to new friendships on the course. To spur on the competition, Director of Golf, Seth Jamison, included two closest-to-the-pin and longest-drive contests, with beverage stops along the way.
The day ended with an awards ceremony on the club’s scenic patio that was attended by the golfers as well as their family members. First, second, and third place teams received engraved LA Club Classic 2014 beer mugs and, after combining the top five scores from each club, Braemar was named the winning club and received the LA Club Classic Trophy to be displayed at the club until next year. Members were thrilled to represent their home club in this year’s tournament and are looking forward to playing again next year.
Members at Braemar Country Club in Tarzana, California, are now well-educated on all things Australian thanks to the club’s recent “Great Aussie BBQ.” General Manager Alex Hammill, who hails from theland down under, brought his homeland to Braemar’s driving range for an event that featured authentic Australian cuisine. The menu offered Shrimp on the Barbie, Meat Pie, Anzac biscuits, lamingtons (dessert) and Vegemite sandwiches. Alex educated Members about the food with fliers describing each food item. Activities included an Australian accent contest, a Heads or Tails game, a putting contest and a Vegemite sandwich-eating contest.
In addition, a local zoo sanctuary brought a baby kangaroo, crocodile, kookaburra and more. More than 200 Members and Guests participated and the weather was perfect – Great Aussie BBQ was a fun and educational way to spend a beautiful spring day.
