Carlos Aguirre, Director of Tennis at April Sound Country Club in Montgomery, Texas, and Neal Cohrs, Assistant Tennis Professional, went back to school recently as guests at a local elementary school. The two were there to raise awareness about tennis and the 10-and-under tennis programs at April Sound but also to provide some fun for the kids.
Neal put his kinesiology background to use and put together a lesson plan about human movement and tennis that worked for all the kids from kindergarten through fourth grade.
The children had a great time, the teachers got a break from their daily routine and the club was able to get the kids excited about tennis and share information about their various tennis programs and summer camps. A real win/win for everyone and extra kudos to Carlos, who helped implement tennis into the elementary schools in 2011, making a difference in increasing young tennis players in the surrounding areas.
Congratulations to Carlos Aguirre, Tennis Director at April Sound Country Club in Montgomery, Texas, and the kids from the club’s Junior Tennis Program. The team placed second at the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Grand Prix State Tournament at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch.
The April Sound team qualified to represent the North Houston area by placing in the top two in the rankings following the area qualifying Grand Prix tournaments. Carlos was extremely proud that the kids were given the opportunity to attend the event, a fun-filled weekend during which the kids learned valuable life lessons about teamwork and hard work. The event was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the kids to bond together and build lasting memories.
