Over 140 boys from more than 30 different countries competed last month in the IMG Academy Junior World Championships Boys’ Division Ages 11-12 at Morgan Run Club & Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, California. Anton Ouyang from San Jose, California, won the competition with a score of 13 under. Jay Lang Jr., a Member from Morgan Run playing on his home turf, won the putting competition. Kudos to the Morgan Run staff, which treated the kids like professionals in one of their most important tournaments of the year!

This fun and festive group of Golfers from Morgan Run Club & Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, California, showed up for a Divot party to fill the divots and repair ball marks on the greens left over by the recent IMG Academy Junior World Championships. The participants brought their buckets, filled them with sand and away they went to repair divots throughout the course. A great time was had by all.
A Warm Welcome to Michael Walker, who has been named General Manager at Morgan Run Club & Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, California. Michael brings over 22 years of club experience, with 18 of those years at the executive or managerial levels. Positions he has held include General Manager, Membership Director and Director of Golf, as well as spending time in the Food and Beverage departments at several clubs and resort operations.
Most recently, Michael served as General Manager at Stonetree Golf Club in San Francisco, an entity of The Bay Club Company. He also spent several years with Omni Resorts/KSL Resorts at Rancho Las Palmas in Rancho Mirage, California, as the Director of Club Operations. Michael is still active in the golf industry having his Class “A” accreditation for both the PGA of America and Canadian PGA.
Michael, who grew up and spent his early career years in Canada, is the father of two – a college-age son and a daughter who is a senior in high school.
The 19th Annual Celebrity Championship was held last month at Morgan Run Club & Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, California, with Marshall Faulk – Super Bowl Champion (St. Louis Rams, Super Bowl XXXIV), NFL Hall of Famer and Division 1 football standout – serving as the host.
Members and the general public were encouraged to come out and watch. The 2017 Celebrity Championship included a two-day Celebrity-Amateur tournament, nightly parties, and a 36-hole, celebrity-only competition. The competition brought over 30 of the best celebrity golfers in the world together to participate in a Celeb-Am Tournament and compete in a celebrity-only competition for a cash purse and the coveted Celebrity Championship trophy.
Celebrities included former NFL players Terrell Davis and Jerry Rice, professional golfer and former MLB pitcher Rick Rhoden, actors Brian Baumgartner (The Office) and Frankie Muniz (Malcolm in the Middle), former NFL player and current CBS sports analyst Marcus Allen, former MLB player Jermaine Dye and former professional soccer player Landon Donovan.
Proceeds from the Celebrity-Amateur, won by former NFL placekicker Josh Scobee, will be donated to The Junior Seau Foundation and The Marshall Faulk Foundation.
It’s going to be a busy weekend at Morgan Run Club & Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, California, as the club serves as the site of the 17th annual Celebrity Championship Hosted by Marshall Faulk, former NFL player and now NFL Network Analyst. The event, which officially began last night with an 800-person party on the tennis courts, includes a two-day celebrity-amateur tournament, a 36-hole celebrity-only competition, Military Appreciation Day and evening parties every night with from 250 to 800 in attendance. Celebrities slated to compete include former NFL players Jerry Rice and Marcus Allen, former NHL Dallas Stars’ player Mike Modano, retired NBA player Alonzo Mourning, actors Alfonso Ribeiro (Dancing with the Stars winner), and Brian Baumgartner (The Office).
The event is scheduled to be televised live on the NFL Network from 4:00-5:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) on Friday, taped for later viewing on Fox Sports West and with live interviews broadcast interviews each morning on iHeartRadio.
As if the event alone will not keep the staff busy, other weekend events include two graduation parties with a combined 600 Guests, a Member birthday party for 30 and a wedding for 130. Never a dull moment at Morgan Run!
Day 2 of the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships are in full swing in Rancho Santa Fe. With an expected high temperature of 75 today and 76 tomorrow, the kids from Hong Kong, Germany, South Africa, Iceland, France, Thailand, Zambia (just to name a few) are enjoying competing in perfect Southern California weather!
The Boys 13 --14 Division is being played at ClubCorp's Morgan Run Club & Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, California, with other divisions competing at other facilities across the San Diego area.
