The Acura ClubCorp Champions Classic makes its triumphant return to Pinehurst Resort this weekend! Since 1987, the challenging ClubCorp national tournaments have offered Members exciting opportunities to visit new places, playing with fellow Members from across the country. The Acura ClubCorp Champions Classic is a wonderful time for Members to come together and enjoy friendly competition and build relationships.
Beginning Monday, September 29 golfers from clubs across the country will walk in the footsteps of golf’s greatest players as they take on the challenging 54-hole tournament. The tournament consists of Pinehurst Resort’s illustrious Courses No. 2 (home to the 2014 U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open Championship), No. 4 and No. 8.
If you’re attending the tournament but not participating, or if you find yourself with some down time between tee times, the surrounding area offers plenty by way of day trips and exciting activities. Some favorite destinations in the Pinehurst area are within 30 or 45 minutes – others are about an hour away. Click here to see a few of our favorites.
Competitors have the opportunity to take home many prizes, including the coveted Putter Boy, which goes to the first place team. Second and third place teams win the tournament award, and Acura will award one lucky Member the use of an Acura for a year via blind draw during the Acura Awards Dinner. Players also have the chance to win daily closest-to-the-pin contests and exciting door prizes.
We hope Members have a wonderful time playing in the tournament during its 28th year!
In one of the largest ClubCorp Couples Tournaments ever held, more than 80 couples participated earlier this month, when 2014 tournament returned, after nearly a decade, to Pinehurst Resort in the Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina. Additionally for the first time ever, the five-day, four-night event included two divisions – the Open Division (male player 61 or younger) and the Senior Division (male player 62 or older) – which added to the excitement. The two divisions played three rounds each – best ball, modified alternate shot and scramble – on different courses though both got to play the famed Donald Ross No. 2 course, site of this year’s U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open on consecutive weeks in June.
Members from clubs across the country were represented at this year’s Couples Tournament and it wasn’t just one couple from each club. Groups of couples from several clubs attended, including 10 couples from both The Clubs of Kingwood in Kingwood, Texas, and Barton Creek Lakeside in Spicewood, Texas. Though the weather was cold and rainy during practice rounds, it progressively improved so that, by the third round, players enjoyed sunshine and 80-degrees – the best at Pinehurst so far this year. Participants also enjoyed breakfast, lunch, dinners, cocktail hours and welcome gift bags and, as always, made new friends – nearly half the group were first-timers – and reconnected with the many returning players.
Congratulations to the winning golfers – John and Debbie Hale of Omni La Costa in Carlsbad, California, who won the Overall Low Gross – Open Division, and JP and Laura Scott of Barton Creek Lakeside, who took home the Overall Low Gross – Senior Division.
First-time participant David Osborn, of Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas, won the closest-to-the-pin contest sponsored by The Moorings by landing his tee shot within four feet of the pin and earning a $5,000 gift certificate toward any of The Moorings crewed yacht cruises.
The event ended with an awards cocktail dinner and reception, during which participants got the opportunity to congratulate the winners, share email addresses and phone numbers and start planning for a reunion and rematch – at next year’s event.
