The World Golf Championship – Bridgestone Invitational officially begins tomorrow at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. There still will be lots of activity at the club today though as practice rounds take place on the South Course. That isn’t all that will go on today:
Honoring Arnold Palmer
In addition, the 2017 World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational will honor the late Arnold Palmer. The tournament is showing its support of the Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation with Arnie’s March Ohio, a fundraising walk which will lead participants around the par-5, 16th hole, which Palmer famously dubbed “The Monster."
Afterward, in support of his legacy, the tournament will dedicate the naming of the iconic bridge on 16 (pictured above) to Palmer in a tribute ceremony. Members of Palmer’s family will be on site, and plan to have a few memorabilia items for fans and March attendees to enjoy throughout the day including Palmer’s golf bag and the signature colorful “Arnold Palmer” umbrellas in various fan areas.
Ambassador of Golf Award
This evening, the Ambassador of Golf Award will be presented Peter Jacobsen, known for his passion and personality throughout his 40-year PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions careers. The award is presented annually by Northern Ohio Golf Charities to a person who has fostered the ideals of the game on an international level and whose concern for others extends beyond the golf course.
Remind your Members today that your TVs will be tuned to the tournament tomorrow and through the weekend and to stop in to the club to watch the excitement. Create pride in belonging by reminding them that Firestone Country Club is a member of the ClubCorp family.
