Matt Ginella, host of the Golf Channel’s show Morning Drive recently visited Vista Vallarta Club de Golf in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, to tape a segment for an upcoming episode of Ginella’s Journeys in Mexico. In this segment, Ginella highlights three golf destinations in Mexico – Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas and Cancun – show casing spectacular Mexico golf as well as the registered Golf Now golf courses. At Vista Vallarta, Ginella and Member Joe Newton played the No. 6 hole on the Nicklaus Signature Course, and the No. 15 on the Weiskopf Signature Course. Ginella was intrigued by the “optical illusion” from the tee of the multi-tiered green. While they played, Newton shared local golf course knowledge and mentioned that ClubCorp's Marina Vallarta Club de Golf golf course is located nearby. The two clubs are located near the CasaMagna Marriott Resort, who is one of ClubCorp’s affiliate partners. Marriott hotel guests can enjoy all-inclusive golf privileges at both clubs with the "Stay and Play" package.

Ginella, who graciously donned a Vista Vallarta hat throughout taping, commented that he loved the facility and would like to return and play all of ClubCorp’s 36 holes offered in Mexico! The episode will air on the Golf Channel in the next few weeks so stay tuned for more information. In the meantime, here's a little teaser for you.

You may be familiar with our Charity Classic events annually hosted by our Clubs. These events are great opportunities to rally the Clubs' communities for a weekend filled with activities such as golf and tennis tournaments, lunches and dinners, festivals, games, and much more. All proceeds go to MDA's Augies Quest, Employee Partners Care Foundation, and one charity chosen by the Club.

On October 14, Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club in California hosted a record-setting Charity Classic event by raising roughly $167,000! More than 170 members and guests participated in the lunch and golf activities which included hole-in-one and putting contests. The afternoon activities were followed by dinner and live and silent auctions. Coto de Caza's third charity of choice was Never Ever Give Up (NEGU), a global childhood cancer foundation.

Thank you so much to the Clubs and participants of all Charity Classic events for making a difference your community and changing the lives of people everywhere. If you haven't already, check out the Charity Classic page for an event happening near you.

“Double, double toil and trouble; fire burn and cauldron bubble” (Macbeth)! …Oh no, the witches have begun to brew, as the spookiest night of the year draws near!

Before they cast a spell on us, hopefully we can all make it to the fang-tastic Halloween parties around. There’s the Monster Mash at The Metropolitan Club, Halloween Spookatcular at Tampa Palms, Ghosts of Hackberry's Past at Hackberry Creek and more! It’ll be a howlin’ good time! Be sure to contact your home Club to see what chills and thrills they have planned for you!

Jolly Jack-O Lanterns!... What are you going to wear?! Well, according to Google Shopping, the top trending costume searches this year are:

  • Minion costume (Despicable Me)
  • Breaking Bad costume
  • Fox costume (“What Does the Fox Say” music video)
  • Duck Dynasty costume
  • Miley Cyrus costume
  • Minecraft costume (video game abut breaking and placing blocks)
  • Deenarys costume (Game of Thrones)
  • Batman costume
  • Gatsby costume
  • Daft Punk costume

Terror-ific costumes, don’t you think? Don’t forget about the classic witch, pirate, mummy, and ghosts too! While some costumes may seem twerkingly funny, we ask that all attire is family spook-proof at Club events.

Happy haunting!

Imagine traveling to Las Vegas for a chance to win one million dollars! That dream became a reality for Hunter’s Green Country Club Member JoAnne Tucker and her mother Anna Zovko, when they were chosen out of thousands of people to compete in the Pillsbury Bake-Off® Contest! What makes this mother-daughter story so special is that they both qualified as finalists on their own!

The Bake-Off® contest is broken down into three categories: dinners, appetizers/sweets and breakfast. Each contestant had to submit an original recipe following the criteria given: no more than seven ingredients, 30 minutes or less of preparation, and two different eligible ingredients. Pillsbury narrowed down each category to 60 semi-finalists and then asked everyone to vote for their favorite. JoAnne and Anna marketed themselves together to try to get as many votes as possible. They passed out samples JoAnne’s breakfast bars with the slogan, “Vote for both and make a dream come true!”

JoAnne and Anna really enjoy cooking and baking together. “Being finalists together is just icing on the cake,” JoAnne said. They want to thank all of their friends and family for support, but most of all the Hunter’s Green community. “We are truly appreciative of all their help and support throughout this process.”

The top 33 finalists in each category will compete in the Bake-Off® in Las Vegas from November 10-12th for a chance to win one million dollars!

We love this story for two reasons: it shows how a mother's and daughter’s hobby turned into something great, as well as how the ClubCorp Tampa community stood behind their fellow Members to help them achieve their dream.

After reading this post, we bet all of you are hungry; here are the links to JoAnne's and Anna’s recipes. Happy baking!

To many, golf is just a game. To those who know it best, however, it is microcosm of life. At its essence, golf is an individual in pursuit of, over 9 or 18 holes, being the best he or she can be on that day. Golf encompasses many of the same decisions and dynamics we face in any given day: showing up, selecting the right tool for the task, balancing risk vs. reward, conduct with dignity and proper etiquette, playing fair, having fun and finishing no matter what challenges were faced. Because golf is in so many respects akin to life, quotes about the game often hold wisdom that can apply off the course as well. Here are ten of our favorite quotes about golf that also apply to every day life.

Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots - but you have to play the ball where it lies. - Bobby Jones

It's a funny thing, the more I practice the luckier I get. - Arnold Palmer

The most important shot in golf is the next one. - Ben Hogan

It takes hundreds of good golf shots to gain confidence, but only one bad one to lose it. - Jack Nicklaus

Missing a short putt does not mean you have to hit your next drive out of bounds. - Henry Cotton

Keep your sense of humor. There's enough stress in the rest of your life not to let bad shots ruin a game you're supposed to enjoy. - Amy Alcott

One of the most fascinating things about golf is how it reflects the cycle of life. No matter what you shoot - the next day you have to go back to the first tee and begin all over again and make yourself into something. - Peter Jacobsen

Golf is about how well you accept, respond to, and score with your misses much more so than it is a game of your perfect shots. - Dr Bob Rotella

Forget your opponents; always play against par.- Sam Snead

As you walk down the fairway of life you must smell the roses, for you only get to play one round. - Ben Hogan

Heather LeMaster, Assistant Golf Professional at Granite Bay Golf Club, won the Re/Max World Long Drivers Women's Division Championship in Mesquite, NV, beating out the previous two-time champion. LeMaster's victory drive was 306 yards, but her qualifying shot was even more impressive as she nailed it for a whopping 330 yards!

Lobster-mania hits the clubs this month as we celebrate ClubCorp National Lobster Month! All of the clubs are excited to host their events and they have taken to Facebook to create some buzz, or…. wait, do lobsters even make noise? Nevermind then! Here’s a look at how three clubs have been having some fun with their events:

Lobsters have taken over the Carolina Club… literally! The bar, the conference room, their logo… they’re everywhere! We have also been informed that lobsters breath and listen with their legs. We didn't know that, did you?!

Larry the Lobster, Canterwood Country Club’s newest mascot, has been spotted around the Club. Every week Canterwood posts Larry’s latest location and the first Member to guess it correctly receives a complimentary appetizer. Also, all Members who correctly guessed the location are entered into a drawing to receive two complimentary tickets to Lobster Feast on October 18th. So far Larry has been spotted at the Pro Shop – booking his tee time, of course – and in the storage area checking out the golf clubs and bags.

Looks like Larry hopped on a plane to the east coast, because he’s also been spotted in Tennessee at Bluegrass Yacht & Country Club reading and planting cabbage!

In honor of Larry and all of his friends – both human and crustacean – here are some fun facts about lobsters.

- Their brains are in their throats and their teeth are in their stomachs.

- Their approximate age is equal to their weight times four, plus three.

- They come in every color except red; until they're cooked, that is – then they're solid red!

To all Members and Guests attending Lobster Feast, have a great time!
