How often do you take the time to thank the people in your community who risk their lives every day to ensure your safety and comfort? Recently, Pyramid Club in Philadelphia hosted the inaugural "Heroes Among Us 2013" to do just that. It was a local event honoring community leaders and benefitting the families of fallen police officers.
Heroes Among Us paid tribute to the brave men and women of the police department who continuously risk their lives to protect the city of Philadelphia, as well as remembered the 280 local officers who were injured or killed in the line of duty. Following a cocktail reception and dinner, an awards ceremony took place where Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey presented the Community Hero Award to David L. Cohen, Executive Vice President of Comcast Corporation, for his significant contributions, extraordinary leadership and commitment to helping the community.
$108,000 was raised for the Survivor’s Fund, which provides financial support and assistance the families of those Philadelphia police officers injured or killed.
Thank you to everyone who continues to risk their lives for their community.

So you are finally done clearing your yard of scarecrows and carved pumpkins, and your kids are now actual zombies from their lack of sleep over the Halloween weekend. Now you are left with the paralyzing thought that it is already November.
What are my Thanksgiving plans? December is right around the corner. What do I buy everyone for Christmas? Have I been true to my 2013 New years Resolution? Wait, the time changed this weekend, right?
Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the month of November, read some of the interesting facts about this celebratory month below! I can't guarantee you will feel less stressed, but at least you'll learn a thing or two!
Daylight Savings Time
While twins born at 11:55 p.m. and 12:05 a.m. may have different birthdays, Daylight Saving Time can change birth order -- on paper, anyway. During the time change in the fall, one baby could be born at 1:55 a.m. and the sibling born ten minutes later, at 1:05 a.m. In the spring, there is a gap when no babies are born at all: from 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.
In November 2007, Laura Cirioli of North Carolina gave birth to Peter at 1:32 a.m. and, 34 minutes later, to Allison. However, because Daylight Saving Time reverted to Standard Time at 2:00 a.m., Allison was born at 1:06 a.m.
