Vanessa O’Brien, a Member at ClubCorp's Boston College Club, summited Mount Everest in May. While perched atop the highest spot on Earth, she posed – in 40 to 50 mile-per-hour winds – with the club flag for a photo. O’Brien trained in the Boston College Club building and took the photo as a thank-you for all the support she had received.
O’Brien’s goal is to climb the Seven Summits – the highest mountains of each of the seven continents – and since conquering Mount Everest in May, she summited Mount McKinley last month.
In honor of ClubCorp's 55th Anniversary, we have been offering a special membership program to the direct family of Club Members: a club membership at $55 to join and $55 per month for the first year.
This program allows the Club Member to sponsor family members at any participating ClubCorp Club (that offers the specific level of membership). The response to this program has been overwhelming, and there is still time to take advantage of it....but not much time.
The offer expires on July 16th, so if you are a ClubCorp Club Member and have been contemplating this offer, it's time to act. There are some restrictions to the membership and where it is offered, so please contact your Club's Membership Director for all the information.
To read more about the program online or to sponsor a family member on our online form, visit our 55 Celebration Membership Offer site at: http://www.clubcorp.com/55-Offer/55-Celebration
Congratulations to Greg Carso, Executive Chef at The Metropolitan Club in Chicago and winner of the Chicago Society’s 8th Annual Metal Chef competition. The competing chefs were given a basket of three mystery ingredients including ponzu for the appetizer course, pork belly for the entrée and mangoes for dessert.
On hand to assist with judging this year was celebrity judge, Victoria Ordoñez of Jorge Ordoñez Wines in Spain. Ordoñez introduced a "twist" to the competition by providing – midway through the competition - her 2007 vintage dessert wine, "Victoria," for the Chefs to use in their dessert course.
The event was a great success with more than 175 Members and Guests attending and raised more than $1,100 for the Greater Chicago Food Depository and a flat-bed cart of non-perishable food donations.
Each year, the ClubCorp Charity Classic opens the doors of our private clubs to help those in need. Members, family and friends alike give, golf and dine during our nationwide charity event. Money raised from these events benefit MDA's Augie's Quest, the Employee Partners Care Foundation and a local charity selected by each club. Last year, ClubCorp raised more than $1.7 million through its Charity Classic events and has the bar set even higher for this year.
Starting this week, The Charity Classic will be posting event reminders, updates and pictures to their new Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ClubCorpCharityClassic. We'd love for you to LIKE this page to follow the Charity Classic.
A list of all Charity Classic events being held this year, plus additional information on the program itself, is still available on the Charity Classic website at: www.clubcorp.com/CharityClassic
We encourage you to visit both sites and participate in an event near you!
One of the best things about our ClubCorp clubs is the amazing scenery around each one. Whether you are a member, or a guest, or a visitor in a wedding party or for an event, there is never a shortage of great photo opportunities. We recently took a new set of photos for the web sites of Nags Head Golf Club, Currituck Golf Club and Greenbrier Country Club, all in the Outer Banks area of North Carolina and Virginia. Here is a sneak preview of a few of the pictures that will be on their web sites soon:
With summer officially here, swimming season is in full swing at ClubCorp Clubs. This year Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas, Texas has added several new amenities to its swimming area that have members diving into fun.
Most notably are the 19 cabanas that come with designated servers, towels, and chilled waters and snacks. In addition, the club has also added a 9-hole mini-golf course, "The Haven" member lounge and pool bar, a poolside private party room, plus new areas for games, contests and activities throughout the summer. All of this is a part of the club's 3 pools and splash pad to keep members and guests cool in the Dallas heat.

A special visitor stopped by the Couples Golf Tournament at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston recently. For this fun event, the club had constructed a floating green out of pool noodles and asked players to hit the green. At some point during the day, the reptilian resident decided the noodles would be a great place to lounge. The alligator didn’t spoil the festivities but rather hung out, caught a few rays and watched some great golf.
There is something unique and special about being a member of a ClubCorp Club. In our family of more than 150 clubs across the country, there is an ever-constant supply of great events, amazing members and subject authorities all working together to build relationships and enrich lives. This blog is where we will try to capture all that is unique, informative and entertaining in ClubCorp and in our clubs.
The journey begins today…we hope you will join us for the wonderful ride.
