Nearly 100 Members at Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas, were at the club yesterday to watch 20-year-old golfer Jordan Spieth play his final round of the Masters at Augusta National. Spieth grew up playing golf at Brookhaven and his parents are still Members.
Spieth was tied for the lead with Bubba Watson at 5 under going into fourth round and, though Watson went on to win the green jacket – his second in three years – Spieth held his own, leading by two strokes after seven holes. Had he won, Spieth would have been the youngest player to ever win the Masters.
It wasn’t just the Members who were interested in Spieth’s play – several local news shows were on hand at Brookhaven to cover the club’s support and each one interviewed Teaching Instructor Joey Anders, who began working with Spieth when he was 8 years old and continued working with him until he was 13.
This won’t be the last time a crowd comes to the club to support Spieth as he competes. No doubt, he has a long career ahead of him and the Members and staff at Brookhaven will be proudly cheering him on through every par, birdy, bogey and eagle along the way.
The Men’s Nine-Hole league at Queen’s Harbour Yacht & Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida, recently invited The First Tee of Jacksonville to the club for a nine-hole golf event. The Ladies Golf Association also participated in the event, which teamed up a student with each player for the two-person scramble.
During the scramble, putts were scored and afterward awards were given out to more than half of the kids in attendance while all the kids received personalized divot tools donated by Members. The kids also were treated to lunch. Not only did the Members of the Men’s Nine-Hole league raise money for golf, lunch and prizes and gifts for the kids, they also raised money to donate to The First Tee.
This is the second year of this unique event, which a representative from The First Tee of Jacksonville says is like no other in the area but is hoping Queen’s Harbour is starting a new trend.
Kudos to Queen’s Harbour and the Men’s Nine-Hole group for their time, generosity, and a great day on the golf course.
Today the Masters Tournament officially tees off at Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia! Even though Tiger Woods and the famous 17th hole Eisenhower Tree won’t be there, the tournament still promises a lot of drama. Star veterans are returning like Roy McIlroy, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson are returning, but this year a record 24 Masters rookies will begin play, including Brookhaven Country Club’s Jordan Spieth. We'll see what happens! You can follow the tournament leader board here.
Aside from this morning's exciting tee-off, Augusta also hosted fun junior festivities earlier this week!
Leo Cheng, an 11-year-old representing Porter Valley Country Club, holed a 6-footer on the 18th hole to win his age bracket in the inaugural Drive, Chip and Putt competition! Leo's trophy was presented by Masters Champion Adam Scott.
Falling behind Cheng, Brookhaven Country Club’s Kyle Cox placed fourth in the Drive, Chip and Putt competition. We are so proud of our young Members and wish them great future success!
Happy Masters Week everyone!

Vista Vallarta Club de Golf received quite the honor recently when Golfweek magazine named the Club’s two golf courses to its 2014 list of the best golf courses in the Caribbean and Mexico! Vista Vallarta’s Nicklaus Signature Course nabbed the No. 8 spot, and the Weiskopf Signature Course was named No. 17 on Golfweek’s list.
Grassy hillsides, dense forests of palm and giant ficus trees, natural creeks and arroyos provide the perfect setting for this world-class course by one of the world's greatest players. Situated on the Club’s highest elevation, the Nicklaus Course boasts stunning views of Puerto Vallarta, the Marina and Banderas Bay.
Mr. Weiskopf masterfully blended the elevations and natural features into an incredibly playable experience, from the first tee to the green of the “driveable" 18th hole. The course is located on the property’s lower west end and the terrain includes dense jungles, deep ravines and swift creeks.
With summer just around the corner and great stay-and-play rates available, it’s the perfect time to venture south of the border and discover this true golfer’s paradise.

Brookhaven Country Club created a truly magic moment for Employee Partner Mitch McPhaul, Fitness Center Locker Room Attendant – they honored Mitch with a surprise reception to celebrate his 14th anniversary at the Club! Brookhaven arranged for over 30 of Mitch’s family, friends, coworkers and staff members from the Citizens Development Center to attend the surprise celebration.
Mitch, an adult with an intellectual disability, has earned the reputation of being service-oriented, punctual, hard-working and extremely reliable in his 14 years at the Club.
Those who spoke at the reception said that a conversation with Mitch guarantees an improvement in their day.
Citizens Development Center (CDC) is a Dallas non-profit organization that provides vocational training and employment placement services for more than 400 adults with disabilities. The CDC helped Mitch secure his job at Brookhaven, and during the reception they presented a Partnership Award to Brookhaven Country Club and ClubCorp for their corporate support of CDC’s mission to empower men and women with disabilities to achieve their highest level of independence and employment.
Congratulations to Mitch on his anniversary!
