Turtle Season in Puerto Vallarta
Turtle season is in full swing down in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Every year from June to December, female Olivier Ridley turtles travel to Mexican beaches to lay their eggs.
The turtles generally arrive on the beach between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. – if guests stay at the resort during turtle season and stay up past their bedtime (we won't tell), they might catcha first-hand glimpse!
With the help of biologists and the Sea Turtle Protection program, eggs are collected nightly so vacationers don’t accidentally step on an egg during the day. The eggs are then taken to a nursery in the hotel until they are born, usually 45 days later. Then with the help of the hotel staff and guests, the turtles are returned to the beach where they are set free. Through this program, more than 337,000 baby turtles have been saved and returned to the wild. Kudos, team!
Lucky for ClubCorp Members, 30% of the nests are laid in front of the CasaMagna Marriott Resort, one of ClubCorp's affiliate partner resorts.
