“Baby Boomers,” have begun to reach age 65.  Born during the 18-year period starting in 1946, they will more than double the ranks of retirees.  With longer life expectancies, and battered by a decade of crashing markets and rising health, food and energy prices, they worry that their savings won’t last.  

The literature and tools available are helpful, but they aren’t enough.  Studies of “Safe Withdrawal Rates” warn us that we need to keep spending in line with savings.  While helpful, these studies only look back in time.  Financial planning software attempts to give us answers, we but cannot rule out the possibility that a plan will fail.
