Chef Oscar La Fuente is first and foremost a husband and a father and his family is his greatest blessing. His 17- and 5-year-old daughters keep him and his wife, Jennifer, on their toes! Josie and Brooke are a constant source of joy and pride.
Oscar was born in Peru to a German mother and Spanish father. As a young child, he was exposed to a vast array of cultural foods and flavors. His love of cooking began at an early age while learning from his Grandmother and spending hours with her in the kitchen.
Oscar relocated to Toronto in his teens. The rich and diverse blend of Toronto’s population and culture, and the limitless array of culinary styles, solidified his desire to pursue a career in the culinary arts.
Following culinary school, Oscar won the prestigious Canadian Black Box Championship, apprenticed at the World Black Box Championship and gained valuable experience in some of the finest and highest rated restaurants in Toronto.
Oscar then moved into the world of hotels, and was invited to be part of task forces opening three new hotels. The last of which was The Umstead Hotel and Spa, which became the first North Carolina Five Diamond Hotel four months after opening.
Prior to joining The Carolina Club, Oscar was the opening Executive Chef for The Cypress Raleigh, and upscale retirement community.
Oscar’s culinary style is rooted in French style. However, he enjoys bringing a modern flair to his dishes, and has been developing his talents in molecular gastronomy over the past few years.
In his spare time, Oscar exercises his creativity in photography and carpentry projects.
