First Friday Art Walk – Start at Cardinal Club!
5:30pm - 8:30 pm
First Friday is one of Raleigh's most popular evening escapes. Join other local art-lovers on the First Friday of every month for a fun-filled introduction to Raleigh's exciting art, music and dining scene.
The Sir Walter Room of the Cardinal Club is now a featured First Friday venue. Artwork from a juried North Carolina Artist will be displayed from 5:30 – 8:30 pm on the first Friday of each month and complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be provided, as will a cash bar for beer and wine.
Our Featured Artist will be: Mary Storms
“From the moment I put paint or paper to canvas, I never know where I’m going until I get there.”
I express my artistic vision through abstract mixed-media landscapes.
I am intrigued and inspired by the natural environment. My intent is to provide the viewer a sense of the symbiotic relationship between the primeval elements - stone, soil, water and sky - and the lifeforms these elements nurture.
With the majority of my work, color and texture is applied in layers, using a combination of paper, acrylic paint, sculpting paste and an occasional found object. To add additional depth and texture, portions of some layers are literally scrubbed off with water before the paint, glue or sculpting paste has completely set. Some of these scrubbed portions are left “raw”, while others are repainted and/or papered over. Once the piece is complete, I apply a combination of glossy and matte medium for both color enhancement and protection.

Selected pieces of my work can also be seen in my studio at 311 West Martin Street Galleries and Studios in Raleigh’s downtown warehouse district.
