Thank you for moving your wine lockers and signing up for our new Wine Connoisseur program at your club.  One of the benefits outlined in the new program are complimentary admission to eight wine tastings with one guest. 

For our first tasting I have partnered with Georgia Crown Distributors.  This event will be held next Thursday night at 6:30 PM in the Wine Room. Addy Edwards from Georgia Crown will be presenting the wines detailed below.  If you like the wines you may also purchase and I will order and have placed in your new lockers.

We have chosen to showcase two wines from a new winery out of the Santa Ynez Valley, Central Coast, California- Refugio Ranch. Previously only sold in 5 other states, Refugio Ranch was founded in 2006 and produces about 3500 cases/year. It is owned by the Gleason family, whom are Atlanta natives.  All of their wines are made from estate-grown fruit, hand-picked and sorted and bottled on the premises. They concentrate on Rhone varietals, due to the terroir being nearly identical to the Rhone Valley in France. They adhere to organic and sustainable practices. The two wines I chose are listed below: the first is a 100% Sauvignon Blanc, the second is a blend of Syrah and Petite Sirah.

2011 Tiradora

Possessed of great depth and verve (the name means “sharpshooter” in Spanish), this remarkable 100% Sauvignon Blanc leads with a compelling nose of lime zest, wet stone, Bosc pear, white peach and gooseberry. Fermented primarily in concrete and stainless steel, with a small percentage seeing neutral oak for additional complexity, this compelling wine shows a palate of Pink Lady apple, Key lime pie, white currant, Meyer lemon and quince, while the lingering finish offers limestone, lemon merengue pie, and wild oregano. Produced entirely of fruit from our gorgeous 415-acre estate in Santa Ynez (of which 26 acres are planted to grapevines), this enticing wine pairs swimmingly with grilled Santa Barbara prawns in a buerre blanc sauce, a casual afternoon of fresh fish tacos, or a languorous Sunday sunset.

2010 Barbareño

The 2010 Barbareño, a blend of 74% Syrah and 26% Petite Sirah, is a sumptuous dark garnet in the glass. Aromas of lavender, violet, black cherry, blackcurrant, and tar, and cacao powder greet you on the nose, while the supple, savory palate delivers olive tapenade, peppercorn steak, licorice, and campfire smoke. Wrapped around a gorgeously structured core are subtle notes of sun-dried coffee beans, sassafras, camphor, Herbes de Provence, cedar and vanilla. Inspired pairings might include a medium-rare filet with Gorgonzola and black pepper, a homemade flatbread with roasted garlic, caramelized onions, and Gruyere, or foraged wild mushroom ragout with polenta and grilled vegetables. The name Barbareño refers to the language historically spoken by the indigenous peoples who lived near the coast just to the west of our vineyard in Santa Ynez.
