Strengthen your body’s core and soothe your soul with Pilates. At the Club, you’ll find a comprehensive Pilates program including complimentary Pilates mat classes each week, Pilates group training on our Allegro Reformers, as well as one-on-one private instruction.
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a specialized form of exercise influenced by yoga, gymnastics, dance and other forms of movement. It was developed in the early 1900s by Joseph Pilates. The exercises and movement sequences are performed on a mat or with specially designed equipment. Pilates focuses on breathing patterns, posture, strengthening “core” muscles of the abdomen and back, and incorporates a mind-body concentration.
Pilates can help you enjoy sports and daily activities with greater ease and decreased risk of injury. It conditions your entire body, stretching and strengthening muscles uniformly to promote balanced musculature, core control, flexibility and agility.
Who should do Pilates?
People of all ages and physical conditions can benefit from Pilates. Olympic champions, professional athletes and fitness enthusiasts have all made Pilates an important part of their training. Because of the focus on “core” conditioning, Pilates exercises can help improve performance in any sport such as tennis, cycling or golf. And because of its focus on gentle, noncompetitive physical conditioning, Pilates is also extremely useful for injury prevention and rehabilitation.
When are complimentary Pilates Mat classes?
Mat Pilates classes are held in a group exercise format and can be found on our schedule.
How does the Pilates Allegro Reformer Program work?
At The Houston City Club, we have six (6) Allegro Reformers in a private studio where we regularly hold Pilates Reformer classes in six-week sessions. The six-week session includes 12 classes (two per week) available at convenient times (morning, noon and evening) six days a week. Pilates Reformer sessions cost $329.
