Chuck Understood has been Northwood's Golf Course Superintendent since September 1982, but has worked for the Club since 1972. Before the golf course was constructed, the property was a 750-acre farm that Chuck's uncle owned and his grandfather was also involved with. In 1959, the property was sold and the construction of Northwood County Club began. In 1964, his Uncle reacquired the property and his father came to work as Superintendent at Northwood, which was then a 9-hole golf course. My father built the back nine in 1965 and remained Superintendent until 1982, before becoming General Manager until 2000. Northwood has been and continues to be a very special place to Chuck and his family. Chuck also graduated from the University of Georgia and has been a Certified Golf Course Superintendent since 1995. In 2003, he was named Georgia's Golf Course Superintendent of the year.
