Born in Staten Island, NY, Chef Nicholas J. Cassidy’s passion for cooking began early in his life. He recalls that one of his most joyful and influential memories was cooking with his great-great grandmother who was from a small town in Italy called Coli. His professional career began working the line at family-style restaurants in Harrisburg at age 14, studied at Le Cordon Blue in Pittsburgh, and went to work at the Omni William Penn Hotel where he “slept with the Craft of Cooking under his pillow.”
Most of his professional career was spent working for Starr Restaurant Group in Philadelphia at Buddakan, Barclay Prime, Talulas’s Garden, Alma de Cuba, Butcher & Singer and El Vez where he exhibited creativity while working with different types of cuisines. He also worked under James Beard award winner Douglas Rodriguez which inspired him to step away in 2009 and open Sauté, a small Queen Village BYOB in which he received words of praise from many of Philadelphia's food critics including a glowing 2 bell review from Craig Laban.
Chef Cassidy continues to draw inspiration from his love for world travel, avidly reading cookbooks, and dining out whenever possible which expose him to new ingredients, flavors and ideas.
