If you weren't able to join us for the Elbow to Elbow event featuring PICT Theatre. The event was well received and included an informal performance by the two lead actors in The School for Lies weaving
around the guest tables making them part of the action. Nike Doukas and
Leo Marks are husband and wife in real life, and play opposite each
other in this comedy based on the French farce of Moliere (The Misanthrope – also called The Cantankerous Lover) with an American contemporary twist.
American
playwright David Ives freely adapts Moliere’s play by exchanging the
title character’s name "Alceste" for "Frank" and shows us a man who is
honest to a fault, except when he is matched by the quick-witted
Celimene with whom he has become smitten. A whole host of other
characters bring this high comedy to life not only with stellar design
elements, but through clever dialogue expertly executed by a top-notch
acting company. Read more about the production in this Broadway World preview article here.
PICT has created a special Dinner and Show Package which
offers Rivers Club Members and their guests the opportunity to take
advantage of generous pricing to encourage dining at the club, followed
by the performance in Oakland. The per person Dinner and Show Package is $55 and includes one ticket to The School for Lies
for any date between 11/29 and 12/15, as well as a three-course meal at
the Rivers Club including tax and gratuity but not alcohol. We
recognize that the club does not offer dining on Saturday or Sunday, so
in that case, to take advantage of the package, you can instead receive a
dining voucher worth up to $25 to use on a date of your choice.
To order click this link and use the Comment Box to confirm the desired performance date/time.
Dinner reservations will be scheduled for 6:15pm for an 8pm curtain

PICT's Holiday Comedy for 2012!
In this freewheeling rewrite of Moliere’s The Misanthrope,
a disillusioned curmudgeon named Frank has resolved to tell the truth
to everyone he meets, no matter how disconcerting or offensive they may
find it. This being a comedy, however, Frank is diverted from his
highminded path by his love for the beautiful Celimene, a bored
aristocrat with an equally sharp tongue. The play’s virtuosic use of
language turns their verbal duel into theatrical fireworks of the
highest order.
