Yoga (Stonebridge Clubhouse)
Tuesday & Thursday: 8:30-9:30am (Yang Yoga)
Friday: 8:30-9:30am (Yin Yoga)
There are two types of Yoga taught at SBRCC, Yin and Yang (Hatha Flow). In Chinese philosophy, Yin and Yang symbolize duality. Things that are Yang are warm, vigorous, and moving. Things that are Yin are cool, calm, and still. The sun is considered Yang, the moon, Yin.
The Yang practice or Hatha Flow incorporates strong flowing, standing postures or asanas for developing core strength and muscle tone throughout the whole body, balance, and stamina.
The Yin practice is slow and meditative and focuses on holding poses for prolonged periods to stretch the connective tissue instead of muscle. Yin postures or asanas are practiced "mostly" sitting or lying. They promote growth, clear energetic blockages, and enhance circulation and calm the mind. Yin yoga targets connective tissue, specifically ligaments, tendons and fascia in the joints and spine.
Over time, the Yin and Yang practice will lengthen connective tissues, tone muscle, lengthen the body, increase range of motion and bring a sense of well being. You simply cannot have one without the other. They balance the spirit, mind and body beautifully.
