About the artist:
Benisse Lester is a professional artist who is also a member of The City Club of Washington. Ms. Lester works in a variety of media - oils, watercolor, and more. She has exhibited in many shows nationally and internationally, with numerous awards for her paintings. She was received the Catherine Wolf Award (judged by Nelson Shanks), and Honorable Mention (judged by Sotheby's specialists) at the Exhibiting Artist Show held at the National Arts Club in New York.
Ms. Lester's artworks have also been published in various venues, such as advertising, poster, and cover art, and are in private collections.
In addition to her current show at City Club, Ms. Lester's work has been exhibited with the Painting Group Shows in New York City, at the Jeffrey Shane Gallery at the U.S. Department of Transportation Headquarters in Washington, D.C., at the Annual Exhibiting Artists' Shows and Roundtable shows at the National Arts Club, at the Margate City Library (New Jersey Shore), and many other venues. She has also had two prior shows at City Club of Washington in 2011.
Ms. Lester graduated from Cornell University, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the College of Art and Architecture, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from the College of Arts and Sciences. She is a member of the Painting Group in New York City (an artist cooperative founded by Aaron Shikler and David Levine). Ms. Lester is a Life Member of the Art Students League of New York, and is an Exhibiting Artist Member of the National Arts Club in New York City. She has also trained at the National Academy of Fine Arts, and with many artist-mentor.
