Holiday Greetings from The City Club!
Dear Valued Member,
It’s that time of year again. The days are shorter, the nights longer, and the air a little sharper. The Holidays are just around the corner; so too is the much anticipated and long awaited "Reinvention" of the City Club of Washington. It’s an exciting time to be in the Nation’s Capital, and to be a Member of the City Club. 2012 is going to be a fantastic year!
I would like to take this opportunity to bring all of you into the fold, and up-to-date with regard to our Reinvention…On Friday, December 23rd, the Club will close at 2:00 PM following our final lunch service of the year. No sooner do we close our doors; than does the renaissance begin, and continue, non-stop, day and night, until we reopen on Monday, January 16th.
Phase I has many facets including the removal and replacement of the original marble floor in our grand foyer to allow for upgrades to the electrical, communication and data systems.
The current Business Center will be completely transformed. In its place we are creating "Touch Down" rooms. These are first come; first served, two to four person meeting rooms, just right for a private phone call, email or a quick closed-door meeting. Business amenities such as light faxing, printing, copying and scanning will be available at our Member Services desk.
The Chesapeake Room will be redesigned from private event space to elevated Member dining. This new incarnation includes the installation of intimate banquette seating, hi-tech lighting, new wall coverings & millwork, contemporary art and new carpet throughout. We will also offer elegant "Fountain-side Dining" in the atrium.
Phase II will be well on it’s way by the reopening and will center around the creation of the Grand Ball Room where the Main Dining Room now exists. The largest of our Club’s space is being reconfigured to allow for more efficient usage and flexibility with regard to Private Events -- a key component of our business model.
Also during this phase, we will expand the Member’s Lounge by removing the Maryland, Virginia and Columbia Rooms to create a state-of-the-art "Any Time Lounge" that will include a media room featuring a 115" LED flat-screen TV, soft seating, private wine storage lockers and a high-top "Community Table." Hi-tech lighting, creative millwork, new wall coverings and carpet. Phase II’s dramatic changes are scheduled to be complete February 29th.
Phase III will culminate with a brand new "Power Board Room," replacing the existing Library. Both the Men’s and Women’s restrooms will be reinvigorated with new furniture, plumbing fixtures, millwork, art, and wall and floor coverings. Linking all areas of the Club with new hallways and access points will complete this final phase.
Assuming we avoid any major obstacles and/or setbacks, ClubCorp and the management of the City Club expect the Reinvention to be completed on if not before April 1st, 2012. Upon completion of all renovations, the Club will host a grand re-opening celebration for all Members. Communications will be forthcoming via the Club’s website, email and e-newsletter regarding all aspects of Reinvention and any pre and post Member events.
As always, I am available for questions, concerns and feedback. Thank you for your support and for your patience!
Very truly yours,
James L. Douthat General Manager
