Houston’s first private club joined forces with the Plaza Club in 2012. The Club continues its tradition of excellence in an atmosphere steeped in history with a comfortable elegance that generations of Houstonians have come to expect.

Established in 1894, The Houston Club is one of the oldest private clubs in the southwestern United States. Consistently listed among the finest clubs in the country, The Houston Club continues to boast a very distinguished membership. Many great leaders, including President H. W. Bush and former Secretary of State Baker, have called The Houston Club home, creating time-honored traditions that reinforce and grow the legacy that sets our Club apart from all others today.

The Houston Club newsletter

"The Clubber," has been around for a number of years. Its original name was "The Houston Club News," before it took the new name of "The Clubber" back in its first issue dated May 1956. If you read back in our newsletter archives, specifically in The Houston Club News, Vol. 1, Issue II, dated March 1956, the Magazine Committee (as it was called back then), asked for its members to come up with a new name for the Club's newsletter. The winning entry was to be awarded a magnum of champagne and dinner for four at the Club. In the next month's Houston Club News dated April 1956, the winning name, "The Houston Clubber," was announced.
