Sat., February 25, 10:00 am - Del Dios Gorge  - 4 miles, Moderate Pace

Hike is suitable for children who like to walk, however is not stroller-friendly because of the uneven terrain.

This 5-mile hike includes a highlight of seeing the historic concrete-arch Lake Hodges Dam that was built in 1918 to impound the waters of the San Dieguito River.  If we are lucky, and we have above-average rainfall, the dam might be overflowing the spillway. If not, we’ll still have a chance to experience a small portion of the Coast to Crest Trail as we hike this section in the gorge.   Meet at 10:00 and hiking will begin at 10:15 am.

Directions: Exit I-15 at Via Rancho Parkway. Drive west on Via Rancho for 3.5 miles. Turn left at Del Dios Highway traffic light, go 2 miles farther to Rancho Drive (traffic light), and turn left again. Rancho drive goes downhill for 0.3 miles to a San Dieguito River Park trailhead and staging area on the right. The famed Hernandez Hideaway biker bar restaurant lies across the street from the trailhead.

For questions on the day of the hike, please call Hiking Club Chair, Tracey Kennedy, at 619-316-9336.
