Protecting Your Most Valuable Assets
The most valuable assets that a businesses has are the identity, the reputation, the creative works, and the methods, and/or innovations, be they trade secrets or patents, that set them apart from their competition. Collectively, these assets are called the "intellectual property" of the business. A business can take ownership of these valuable assets and protect them through the skillful and informed use of trademark, copyright, trade secret, and patent law. Each of these tools will be discussed, and the role that each plays in protecting intellectual property will be explained and compared. Recent changes in patent law due to the "America Invents Act" will also be discussed.
