2013 BMW Best Ball Challenge Tournament Results
Congratulations to all of the winning teams and individuals during the 2013 BMW Best Ball Challenge, which took place late last month at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. The weather could not have been more beautiful as the teams took to all three courses during the 54-hole tournament, which ended on the South Course, site of the World Golf Championships – Bridgestone Invitational.
Adam Rubinson and Mike Wallace from The Texas Tech Club in Lubbock, who held on to a lead throughout the tournament, were the Overall Low Gross Winners with a score of 196. In addition to a Firestone Trophy and gift certificates to the Pro Shop, Rubinson and Wallace also won entry to the BMW Cup at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina, in October.
Dane Olson and Cameron Moore from the City Club on Bunker Hill in Los Angeles won the Low Net title with a 196 as well and also received a Firestone Trophy and gift certificates
During round two, Bill Remley from Oakmont Country Club in Corinth, Texas, won the Straightest Drive contest, while John Reichart from Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, won the Closest-to-the-Pin contest.
While round three on-course competition winners included Jay Baumgartner from Bay Oaks Country Club for the Straightest Drive, and Bob Fedro, of Green Tree Country Club in Midland, Texas, who won Closest-to-the-Pin contest and with it a day pass to the BMW M School in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where the driving school events include Handling, Autocross, Skid Pad, Accident Avoidance, Braking, and Control Under Panic Situations.
After playing the second round of the tournament on Saturday morning, the players had the option of participating in a nine-hole scramble on the club’s nine-hole public course.
30 teams participated and were divided into three flights. And the winners were:
Mark Dyle and Andy Rodriquez from Canyon Gate Country Club in Las Vegas, who shot a net score of 30 to win the Championship Flight
John Sellgren and Glenn Storther of Trophy Club Country Club in Trophy Club, Texas, who shot a 30 to win the First Flight
Wayne Hudgens and Bill Remley from Oakmont Country Club with a score of 29 to win the Second Flight.
This year, a total of 13 clubs were represented in the various winners list so, though not every player won a prize or trophy, many did and it is safe to say that all went home from this year’s event having experienced many Magic Moments along the way.
