2013 ClubCorp Couples’ Tournament
The reviews are in and all say that the 2013 ClubCorp Couples’ Tournament held earlier this month at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia, was one of the best yet. The excellent weather combined with the fabulous historic resort featuring outstanding food, amazing golf, and even the new water park where many of the golfers – still young at heart – took advantage of the water slides and lazy river all contributed to the event’s success. And, of course, most important, was the energy and fun brought by the participants.
The 43 teams competing included a good mix of 17 first-time couples to the tournament and 26 returning with combined team handicaps ranging from 8.8 to 63.9 – divided into four flights for three rounds of play.
Congratulations to the Winners!
- Overall Low Gross – First-time attendees John and Debbie Hale from La Costa Country Club in Carlsbad, California, ending with a 203
- Overall Low Gross Runner-Up went to Jack and Jeanna Wolf of The Texas Tech Club in Lubbock
- Overall Low Net – Walt and Janet Schroeder from Kingwood Country Club in Kingwood, Texas, who ended with a 184.5. Veterans of the event, Walt and Janet have competed in 20 of the events in its 24-year history.
- Overall Low Net Runner-Up went to Bill and Bonnie Brewer of The Greens Country Club in Oklahoma City.
In addition to the big winners, awards and prizes were presented daily and included an all-inclusive Moorings Crewed Yacht island escape (closest-to-the-pin), two $1,000 Berretta apparel gift certificates (guess-the-tees contest and a raffle), and La Tour Wines gifts packs (highest scorers in each flight after the first round). And, though no one was lucky enough to hit a hole in one, prizes for the hole-in-one was a five-day, four-night stay at The Wyoming Club Signature Lodge and included Lake Oahe fishing and Sutton Bay golf packages.
Kudos to Tournament Director Kathy Walker, the Tournaments staff, as well as the staff at The Homestead – who all played a role in making the 2013 Couples Tournament one of the best!
