What is the PV Junior Golf Academy Development Tour?
This is a series of 9 hole tournaments that will be held once a month for us to track the development of our junior golfers in the Porter Valley Junior Golf Academy. Having the juniors come out to the range once a week and practice is one thing, but our goal is to develop an overall golfer who will enjoy playing the game on the course. The results will help us determine which Academy Class the junior should be in and will help them develop faster when situated with the correct skill level of classmates.
Don’t think this will be an overwhelming situation for a beginner. Students will be paired in similar skill sets with parents caddying and spectating. Who cares if someone steps on their line or accidentally moves their ball; we are here to start the juniors out small in a fun and quick format. Our goal is to have the juniors learn how to get the ball in the hole first. Rules will follow, so will distance.
Unlike other sports, golf competition is simply part of the daily routine. Tournament golf lacks structured improvement that juniors need to play and compete against each other at any age group or skill level. The PV Junior Development Tour is designed to provide a competitive environment in which junior golfers can excel and have fun.
Why the PV Junior Golf Academy Development Tour?
What makes junior golfers want to compete?
We believe that using our hat system keeps the kids competing and practicing on a regular basis. Starting the kids teeing off from the 100 yard plate and playing 9 holes takes the overwhelming experience of a golf course out of the equation. Each hole will be played as a par 4 for a total of 36 with a max score of 8, making for a quick afternoon of golf. As they progress, they advance in hat level and move farther back, creating a new challenge as they improve.
When and who can play?
Year Long Points and Achievement
Besides the monthly challenge of progressing through the hats and pins, there is an ongoing points associated with the Porter Valley Junior Golf Academy Development Tour. Each tournament played will contribute points to the player’s season total. After the conclusion of the year’s final event, overall winners of the Tour will be awarded.
