Ladies’ Team Clinics (WIC)
(Players must be on the team to participate)
River Run has five Women’s Interclub teams that compete in the Piedmont Interclub League. Each team has a weekly 1.5-hour practice with a maximum 4:1 student to pro ratio. Each practice is structured with a team warm-up, followed by three drill rotations that emphasize technical and tactical game improvement lesson plans specific to each team.
Informal Ladies’ Offseason Practices
Between WIC Interclub seasons the professional teaching staff offers informal practices and are open to all players. These practices are designed to fill the instructional gap between competitive seasons. The focus is on technical stroke development and doubles tactical play. Weekly sign-up is required.
Men’s and Ladies Pro Drills
This is the mainstay drill program developed by our Director of Tennis and modeled to simulate a two-hour college tennis team workout. The program is suitable for all player levels from 3.0–5.0 as players are grouped by ability level. During the first hour, the pros guide players thru a series of live ball drills focused on consistency and accuracy to create a heart-pumping work out. In the second hour, the pros divide the players into teams where they play two half-hour rounds of doubles/singles with the pros provide coaching points.
Saturday Morning Clinics
(Sign-up is required.)
Each Saturday morning we run a resort-style clinic for Beginners through Advanced players featuring lots of ball-fed drills to help with technical development for all strokes. If you are looking for a clinic to hit lots of balls with your forehand, backhand, volleys, overheads and serves, this is the one for you. The pro will adjust the feed according to the ability of each player in the group. The clinic is open to all members male and female and can be used as a make-up practice for WIC players
Cardio Tennis
This class is the ideal mix of tennis and a heart-pumping aerobics class. If you want something different from your typical aerobics class, then Cardio Tennis is for you. Our pros are Cardio Tennis Certified meaning they run the class and teach the proven cardio drills that provide the ideal exercise that only Cardio Tennis can provide. The class is open to all ability levels and is limited to eight players per court. The program currently runs from May through August.
Adult Beginner Clinics
This class is specifically designed for those players that have had no or very little previous tennis experience. The pros will teach the basic fundamentals for all the strokes of the game. Players will also learn the rules of the game, scoring, positioning for singles and doubles and ways in that you can practice on your own to accelerate your development.
Tennis Fundamentals
Tennis Fundamentals is the perfect clinic for new/beginner level players or for those who are returning to tennis after a time away from the sport. The focus is on learning the fundamentals of the basic strokes using our GPS teaching system: Grips, Preparation and Swing Shape. Players will experience a highly positive teaching environment while learning the proper strokes, basic singles and doubles strategy, court positioning, shot selection and scoring.
River Run’s tennis academy has a long history of developing world class tennis players. We build players from the ground up in an athlete-centered environment with a long term development pathway. Our proven development system is based on the science of how young children learn, grow, and mature. Our system runs similar to the way a school curriculum works and this is why we run all classes on a semester basis. The goal is to progress each student to the next level after several semesters based on their progress. In some circumstances we will allow a player to join a class mid semester though typically we encourage players to start at the beginning of a new semester.
Our Academy staff holds the highest level of education in the tennis coaching industry and our consultants are both world leaders in player development. Our Alumni have received scholarships at over 20 of the best Division 1 programs in the nation. These schools include UGA, UNC, Wake Forest, and Davidson, to name a few.
