James “Boomer” Perkins was born in Redwood City and raised in Cupertino. James graduated from Saint Francis High School in Mountain View after receiving a golf scholarship to play for Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. James graduated from OU in 1997 with a degree in Sports Management and a minor in Business.
After college, James started working in the healthcare insurance field but quickly realized his true love and passion is the game of golf. James left the insurance business and began his career in golf at Castlewood Country Club in 1998. James jumped at the opportunity to start working with Brian and Juli Inkster at Los Altos Golf & Country Club in 1999. James received his Class A certification in the PGA in 2006 and was immediately promoted to Head Golf Professional at Los Altos.
James and his wife Gretchen were married on November 11th, 2006. They have two children, Colin (10) and Megan (8). In 2012, after 13 years at Los Altos, James and his family were excited to move to Santa Rosa after he was chosen to become the new Head Golf Professional at Fountaingrove.
James has played golf competitively since he was 8 years old, which is one of the reasons why he has such a huge passion for junior golf. James has grown and expanded the Junior Program at every club he has worked at and is excited to continue that trend at Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club. James is very knowledgeable in several areas, especially Tournament Operations, Golf Operations, Club Fitting, Merchandising and Teaching.

Mark serves as the coordinator of the Men’s Business league on Tuesdays, the Nine Hole Women, and Women’s Evening Golf League (WEGL) on Thursdays. In 1989, while pitching for Sonoma State University, Mark was signed by the SF Giants and played two seasons of professional baseball for the Pocatello (single A) Giants.
After baseball, Mark changed to golf turning Professional in 1999 and has been teaching for the past 7 years. He is currently enrolled in the PGA apprenticeship GPTP program having completed level 1. His teaching philosophy is based on having a firm basic fundamental golf swing. Building a solid foundation is the key to a consistent golf swing, lower scores and making the game more enjoyable. Mark enjoys the challenge of teaching low handicappers, but works with a variety of players. Mark is a certified club fitter and Cleveland Golf advisory staff member.
