We’ll go beyond golfing basics like stance and swing to help young golfers develop key character traits like confidence, respect and self-discipline. From age-appropriate instruction for our youngest golfers to competitive development for teens, Crush It! is shaping the next generation of golfers.

Matt Nicolle, PGA

Player Development Director

Matt Nicolle is a Class A British PGA Professional and Long Drive Champion. He grew up in the Island of Jersey, U.K. where his passion for golf began. He later moved to London where he lived for 7 years before relocating to San Diego, California in March of 2020. Matt has been working in the golf industry for over 10 years; from coaching, training, club fitting, competing to event management. Through his years of experience, he has coached and shared his passion for improving people’s games across the globe from casual golfers to future PGA professionals. Combining competitive spirit and his natural ability to produce impressive ball speeds, he took up the sport of Long Drive in 2016. He went on to win the Long Drive European Tour in 2017, with a record points total. He has now won five times globally and his longest drive in competition is 439 Yards! Matt views coaching and player development as creating an environment that aids learning, performance and growth. He has a comprehensive style with the underlying goal to build a level of ownership, using a measurable and holistic approach to each player. This creates more emphasis on self-awareness and self-correction. There are many paths that can be taken to elevate performance, it is finding the right one that will have the most benefit and can be repeated the most effectively. With a mindset and passion for continued learning, Matt continues to challenge himself with developing all aspects of the game- including staying up to speed with the latest technology, product knowledge across all manufacturers and studying a broad spectrum of coaching techniques with the understanding that not all players are the same. He has an extensive background in player development and looks forward to bringing this experience to Bernardo Heights Country Club!

Nick Herbrig

Player Development Assistant

Nick started working at BHCC in February of 2019. He worked for four months with outside services before being promoted to Player Development Professional. Nick has had a love for the game every since her started playing golf when he was 19 months old. Nick worked with Porzak Golf for 6 years before becoming a PGA Apprentice in 2020. Nick is the Captain of the BHCC Barracuda PGA Junior League team and heads the Junior Monthly Program called Crush It on Wednesday afternoons. Nick specializes in working with juniors, beginners, and seasoned golfers. Nick lives in La Mesa, with his wife Nicole and their cat Winnie. When he’s not golfing he enjoys thrifting with his wife, traveling, and watching baseball.
